H1N1 has been spreading around the country, and now it is showing up in Florida. There are two suspected cases in Palm Beach County, and one of the confirmed cases is practically right in our own backyard. At a news conference in Tallahassee, the governor and the state surgeon general revealed there are now two confirmed cases of H-1-N-1 in Florida.

One is an 11 year old boy who goes to school at Spring Creek Elementary in Bonita Springs near Ft. Myers, and the other is a 17 year old girl who attends Hallandale High School in Broward County.

“I am confident that if we all do our part, whether it’s staying home when sick or regularly washing your hands or contacting your health care provider if you have flu-like symptoms, Floridians will come together as we have time and time again to overcome this current H1N1 swine flu outbreak,” Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros, Florida State Surgeon General.

Health officials in Palm Beach County are awaiting test results on two suspected cases of H-1-N-1. Tim O’Connor, a health department spokesman, says they sent the samples to the Centers for Disease Control today and could have the results back as early as Saturday.
